Relays

The faulty fuel pump relay on many 2007-2014 Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/VW vehicles is the five-pin NEC/Tokin #EX1-1F1J, which is soldered to one of six circuit boards located deep inside the TIPM. Windshield wipers, door locks, and washer fluid functions are controlled by double relays, which can also be replaced or repaired. External Fuel Pump Relays

Omron G8JN Relay The installation of an external fuel pump relay is the not-so-elegant way Dodge/Jeep decided to fix the chronic fuel pump relay issue that plagues many 2007 and newer Dodge/ Jeep/ Chrysler/ VW vehicles. Unfortunately, only 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee owners can receive this external relay at no cost under a recall because (according to reports) they were more vocal than others. The recall started in September 2014 and the same faulty fuel pump relay manufacturer and part number is present on nearly all affected vehicles.

It's easy to identify if you have an external relay. If an external relay is not present, check out some of our solutions to solve a fuel relay problem. If you do have an external relay and starting problems continue, you're likely stuck with it because the dealer cut wires under your TIPM that completely disconnected the fuel pump circuit inside the TIPM. However, we do have some suggestions on what to do.
